Founded at Stanford University in 1998, Alliance Streetdance is a completely student-run hip hop dance team. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds ranging from classical ballet to old school funk, and our different styles and experiences are reflected in our choreography. We have unique style and swag, love storytelling through dance, and push ourselves to provide you with a show you can't get anywhere else! Audition for our team, come to our workshops, and check us out at our performances!
Every fall we hold auditions and welcome newbies into our dance family -- we love freshmen, grad students, and everyone in between! No experience is necessary, and all choreography will be learned during the audition process. Auditions 2014 are Saturday, Sep 27 (11:30 am - 2:30 pm) and callbacks are Sunday! Email us with any additional questions!
Each quarter we host or co-host a workshop for the Stanford community at large. Sometimes we bring in outside choreographers, sometimes we collab with other dance groups on campus! In 2014, our workshops have featured Kyle Limin, Jason Rillera, Paul Ross, and Ellen Kim! The workshops are open to all Stanford students so like us on Facebook for updates!
Every spring Alliance hosts "Hipnotized," a dance showcase for the Stanford dance community. We invite a diverse variety of student dance groups to perform and also invite off-campus performers. Past year themes have included "Greeks v. Trojans," "90's Prom," and "Apocalypse." Get pumped for this year's theme!
Check out our recent performances!
Alliance has performed both on campus and off. We've performed for small audiences (freshman dorms and dining halls) but also for huge audiences (Stanford basketball halftime shows as well as Bay Area television!) We are a performance-based team -- we dance because we love it and hope our audiences love it, too!
This set is from Common Origin's 2nd Annual Breaking Ground! The turn out was incredible, and it was an awesome venue to show what we had been working on all quarter!
The [M]ovement Showcase is put on at Berkeley! We love traveling across the Bay every year for this show and really appreciate the opportunity to perform off-campus! For the past two years, Alliance, Dv8, and CO Core have collaborated to represent the Stanford hip hop community at large. Really fun for us to come together!
Hipnotized is Alliance's Annual show, held during the Spring. This year's theme was "Apocalypse," a set that combined elements from works like "The Matrix" and Orwell's "1984" to create a rebellion narrative.
ECC is Dv8's Annual Winter Showcase. For this set, we channeled Shakespeare and danced our way through the story of Romeo and Juliet (from the rival families of Cal and Stanford). Watch the whole thing because there is a modern plot twist you won't want to miss!
CO's FIRST Breaking Ground Showcase, Fall of 2012.
Hipnotized 2012 was a fun one -- 90s Prom theme! Do you wanna go back to your highschool prom? Ehhhh, maybe. Better question: Do you want get down to ALL 90s jams? Then this is the set for you!
It's an epic classic -- The Greek and Trojan War! This set includes Gods and Goddesses, war, love, heartbreak, betrayal. Again, you need to watch both sets for the full story, but here's Part 2 (to cut to the exciting stuff!)
Here are some of the most popular performances from 2011. Check out ECC for some great lyrical hip hop choreo from Alexei and Rhythms for some of Vinh's sick tutting!
