I chose child neurology because it involves a rapid period of development of the brain. Treating and correcting problems in the early stages has a tremendous impact on the future of a child as they become an adult. It is a big responsibility, and I try to be aware of that, especially when facing difficult questions.
I also offer prenatal consults for pregnant women. I try to be objective about the findings on fetal neuroimaging studies, and provide them the best picture possible about the outcomes. Our ability to diagnose malformations and syndromes is getting better and better each year.
I strive to be open-minded about new approaches to management or treatments. When the standard treatments are not working, I try to think outside of the box and look for new approaches.
