I take a holistic approach to the medical, social and emotional well-being of each child. The child is always at the center of my care, and I try to include them in an age-appropriate discussion so they understand why they are being seen by a doctor.
Knowledge is power, and I try to empower families with education about their child's condition in order to improve their daily quality of life. My greatest sense of accomplishment comes every time I am able to help a family.
My most memorable patient was a young boy with a life-altering brain injury. I told his parents to take things "one day at a time". This had a tremendous impact on how they approached their son's injury and care. Several years after the injury, he was able to go on a canoe trip with his family. The process of healing after brain injury is a journey, and helping a family navigate this journey is the most rewarding part of what I do.
