**New limited $400,000 funding opportunity-only two applicants are permitted, so a university-wide internal selection process is required for all early career Stanford assistsant and associate professors who are in their fifth to eighth year of a tenure-track position* who are engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease.

(*The sponsor has approved our Stanford faculty with UTL and MCL faculty appointments -see eligibility).

Amount of funding:
$100,000 per year x 4 yrs (1-2 grants to be awarded)
Funding for years 2, 3 and 4 of Scholar Award is contingent upon approval of a yearly progress report.
The foundation does not provide overhead.

Purpose
Stanford University is one of thirty institutions invited to submit two applications in 2018. This program is designed to fund early stage investigators who are engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease.

Institutional representatives: not applicable. You do not have to submit your proposal to your institutional representative (RPM/RMG or OSR) for their approval. You can submit it directly to Jeanne.

1) Title Page

Project title:
PI name, title, department, address, phone and email address

2) Recommendation letter printed on your department letterhead, addressed to Dr. Peter Sarnow and the Awards Committee members, and signed by your division chief (if applicable) or your department chair. This letter should indicate your support for your candidate and how his or her research proposal has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease.


3) Proposal (up to five pages)
Proposal with objectives and aims. References are not included in the page total, but text (the project description) and figures/charts are.
Format: single-spaced size 12 Times New Roman or Ariel font.


4) A one-two page lay summary
Applicants should bear in mind that the foundation's Board includes non-scientist members, making this summary of particular importance.

5) NIH Biosketch- 5 pages, inclusive of publications

Selection process
The School of Medicine Awards Committee will be reviewing the proposals submitted from eligible faculty from all Schools. The committee will select the two applicants to represent Stanford University by the sponsor's Jan. 15, 2018 deadline.
