Citizenship
By the time of award, the individual must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence (i.e., possess a currently valid Permanent Resident
Card USCIS Form I-551, or other legal verification of such status).

NRSA F Series Award-Grants.gov Computer Lab Training Sessions
We will be downloading your REAL application forms and completing some of the administrative sections in these hands-on lab sessions. This training is completely web based. We will be downloading and completing required Stanford-specific internal documents. Debra Porzio from the Research Management Group (RMG) Fellowship Office will be on hand to assist each of you with your application.
Sessions are for required for those pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows who are submitting application. 3-hour grants.gov computer lab sessions will be announced for those submitting applications.

FAQ's
1. If I sign up for the computer lab session, am I commited to submit an application for the next standard deadline?
No, taking the class is not a commitment to submit. Often, attendees delay submitting their proposal until the next cycle. And, those same attendees who delay often choose to attend a second time closer to their deadline.
2. Will this course provide any suggestions on how to write a successful research proposal and/or tips about other attachments for specific research plans/career goals/etc.?
During the class, we review each of the attachments. However, the class does not focus on grant writing but on completing the administrative sections of the application so that you can focus more of your time outside of the class on the scientific elements of the proposal. There are a few grant writing resources on campus through Postdoctoral Affairs, Lane Library and elsewhere:

3. Can we bring our own iPad/laptop to the course to fill out electronic forms?
The lab is equipped with a PC for each student.

STEP #1- Which program announcement is best for me?
Graduate students:
Go to the pre-doc list >> below. Per the titles, two are devoted specifically for indviduals in dual M.D./Ph.D. programs. The other two are for those in Ph.D. programs. See the eligibility criteria for the specific program announcement
Postdoctoral fellows:
See the postdoc list >> below for program announcements
STEP #2 - How do I know which program would best fit my research project/topic?
Go to the list of program announcements under the postdoc list >> or the pre-doc list >>below.
Click on the individual program announcement. All of the participating institutes/centers will be listed under the title of the program announcement. In most cases, just the title of the institute (i.e.., National Cancer Institute-NCI) will be self explanatory. In other cases, you can click on the link to the institute and search for mission/research interests to see if your research might be a match
STEP #3: how do I confirm my eligibility and whether my topic is a good fit with a specific NIH institute?
Important- contact the NIH program official
Click on the link for the program announcement provided in the postdoc list >> and the pre-doc list >> below.
If the program announcememt only has one participating institute (i.e., NINDS), then the program official you can contact to ask questions about your eligibility and topic will be listed in the announcement webpage.
If the program has mutliple participating institutes, then the program announcement has links to the table of institute/program contacts. The program official for the institute you might be interested will be on that separate webpage. He/she will be happy to answer any questions you have.
STEP #4- Can I search for individuals who were recipients of previous fellowships?
Yes. First you'll need the previous specific FOA number (funding opportunity number). Click on the link for the program announcement provided in the postdoc list >> and the pre-doc list >> below.
Review the program announcement webpage under the line entitled, "announcement type". It will say re-issue of ____ (i.e., PAR-XX-XXX or PA-XX-XXX .That is the former FOA .
The "reissue of PA-XX-XXX or PAR-XX-XXX is also provided for your reference under each announcement on the lists.
Go to the NIH webpage: NIH RePORTer search tool >>, go to the FOA # search field (lower right hand side of the webpage) and enter the former FOA #, click on the "Submit Query" button at the bottom.
Your search result: You will receive a multi-page result that includes all of the names of the fellowship recipients, their institutions, project title (link to the abstract), amount of funding, etc. who were funded through that former program announcement. (Note: you can click on the column heading to sort the results.)
