Parking permit fundamentals

A permit is not a “reservation”

A Stanford parking permit is the property of Stanford University. Purchasing a parking permit grants you permission to park in designated areas on University lands. It is not a guarantee that you will always be able to find a space in a specific or preferred parking area.

Lost and stolen permits

A Stanford parking permit is worth hundreds of dollars a year and is costly to replace, so you will want to safeguard it as carefully as you would any other valuable. Always keep your car locked and windows rolled up.

What to do if permit loss or theft occurs

• Come to our office at 340 Bonair Siding and fill out a Lost, Stolen, or Replacement Report. If your permit was stolen, we recommend that you file a police report for your stolen permit with Stanford’s Department of Public Safety or in the relevant jurisdiction.
• We will issue you a one-month courtesy permit to allow time for the permit to be recovered.
• If your permit is not recovered, you will be responsible for the following:
• The full value of your original permit
• Plus, a replacement fee of $35 or 15% of the residual value of the lost or stolen permit, whichever is greater.
• Note: The fee will be waived if you provide a copy of the police report for your stolen permit.

If you forget your permit...

If you find yourself on campus without your parking permit, pick up a free temporary courtesy permit at Parking & Transportation Services. Just bring your ID with you.

For your use only

Your parking permit remains the property of Stanford University. Selling or transferring your permit to someone else is a violation of the university’s policy that could result in disciplinary action.

Penalties

Anyone found to be in violation of the Commute Club and/or parking permit policies set forth by Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) is subject to revocation of transportation incentives and/or parking privileges. Instances of egregious misconduct may result in further administrative, disciplinary, and/or legal action, up to and including termination of employment or expulsion.
