NPS/A Out-of-State Placement

Reporting requirements for out-of-state nonpublic, nonsectarian school and agency placement.
California Education Code 56365(f) requires that if a local educational agency (LEA) places a pupil with a nonpublic, nonsectarian school or agency outside of California, the pupil's individualized education program (IEP) team shall submit a report to the California Department of Education within 15 days of the placement decision.

The report (DOC; 69KB; 2pp.) requires information on the

  • special education and related services provided by the out-of-state program placement
  • costs of the special education and related services provided
  • efforts of the LEA to locate an appropriate public school or nonpublic, nonsectarian school or agency, or a combination thereof, within the state
