A San Jose State police officer was assaulted by a reputed gang member overnight in downtown. The suspect, 23, was Tased and hospitalized. He is expected to be arrested later today.

Officer is on the mend after being punched repeatedly in the face during a “surprise” assault by a reputed gang member near the Hammer Theatre downtown, authorities say.
