New Student Orientation

Overview

Orientation is a period of adjustment and initial exposure for new students at Stanford.  Special considerations should be taken with regard to use of alcohol and recruitment for student organizations during this time.  The following dates apply to New Student Orientation 2015:

Alcohol:

  • September 15 – 21, 2015 (Tuesday - Monday 8:00 am).  At no time should any Stanford student provide, serve or in any way make alcohol available to any new, incoming undergraduate student (freshman or transfer). This specifically means that no alcohol is to be present, served, or consumed at any student organization and/or dorm during NSO.

Events:

  • September 15 – 21, 2015 (Tuesday-Sunday).  Student organizations are not allowed to host events or parties for new students.

Recruiting and Tabling:

  • September 15, 2015 (Tuesday). No student organization recruitment or tabling during move-in day.
  • September 17 – 21, 2015 (Wednesday-Monday 8:00 am). No dorm or dining hall recruitment without specific permission from the residential staff (RF or RA). White Plaza tabling and recruitment is permitted. White Plaza is reserved for such activities through September 20 (Sunday).
  • September 21, 2015 (Monday 8:00 am) and onward.  Student organization recruitment and tabling is permitted anywhere provided such activity meets University policies and building expectations. Friday, September 25th from 12 noon – 4pm is the annual Fall Activities Fair in White Plaza.

Recruiting Student Organization Members:

Student organizations are not permitted to recruit new members for their organization before the second day of New Student Orientation, Wednesday, September 16, 2015. While recruitment in White Plaza is allowed beginning Wednesday, September 16, no incoming undergraduate student should be offered organization membership or asked to represent a student organization until the conclusion of the New Student Orientation period, Monday, September 21, 2015 at 8:00 am.
