COMMUNITY HEALTH SYMPOSIUM

This annual event will showcase a wide range of service and partnership research projects undertaken by Stanford students, trainees, and faculty in underserved communities here and around the world. This year's keynote speaker will be Travis Gayles, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer for the District of Columbia's Department of Health. SPECTRUM INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM

Spectrum offers university-wide programs that provide promising researchers with financial support, training, pilot grants and mentoring to help them initiate innovative projects that accelerate the translation of medical discoveries into better health. At this event, Spectrum leaders will summarize year-end highlights and researchers will be on hand to discuss their poster presentations in the areas of drug discovery, medical devices, diagnostics, population health, community health, and health-care delivery. NAVIGATING THE IRB PROCESS

Attendees of this workshop will walk away with a better understanding of Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), the committees that review and approve research involving human subjects. Central and external IRBs will be discussed, as well as how to best work with external IRBs at Stanford. This workshop will be lead by Sarah Clark-Worley, Senior HRPP Process Manager at the Stanford Research Compliance Office. It's sponsored by the Stanford Education Planning Initiative, called SEPI.
