Updating or Withdrawing an Application
Changing an Application
After submitting a housing application, students can make changes to their selections on Axess until the appropriate application deadline. Updating application preferences does not change a student's position on the list.
To make changes to an application:
- Log in to Axess before the deadlines listed below.
- Select Housing and Dining from the Student menu.
- Select Edit and update the appropriate application.
Withdrawing an Application
Students can withdraw housing applications on Axess without a fee by the application deadline for each round. Withdrawing or cancelling after the deadline will result in a $100 - $550 fee, depending on the date canceled.
Once a student withdraws an application, he or she may reapply for housing, but doing so after the application deadline will cause him or her to receive a new Lottery number and position on the list of students waiting.
To withdraw an application:
- Log in to Axess before the deadlines listed below,
- Select Housing and Dining from the Student menu,
- Select Withdraw, and then follow the prompts to withdraw the appropriate application.

Changes in Student Status
If your family status changes after you submit an application (e.g., from single student to couple) you must apply for housing appropriate to your new status. If the change in family status corresponds with Winter or Spring Quarter, you may apply for that future term on Axess and keep your current application or assignment.
If your family status changes before you are assigned: You should withdraw the original application and reapply by the deadline for housing that is appropriate to your new status.
If your family status changes after you are assigned, but before your contract begins: You should cancel the original assignment (you will be assessed applicable assignment cancellation fees) and join the Waiting List by the appropriate deadline for housing suitable to your status.
If you or your spouse/partner becomes pregnant after being assigned to housing for single students or couples without children: You may apply for students with children housing for the academic term that coincides with the second or third trimester of pregnancy. You would be eligible to keep your contract in single student or couples without children housing until the birth of the child. You should contact Housing Assignments to request a student with children application for autumn. If the second or third trimester corresponds with Winter or Spring Quarter, you may apply for that future term directly on Axess.
If you are assigned to housing for students with children, your original Lottery assignment will be cancelled and corresponding administrative fees assessed. All transfers are made on the basis of availability, Waiting List application number, and pregnancy due date. Students already living on campus have priority over off-campus applicants without a housing guarantee, but assignments aren’t guaranteed.
If you or your spouse/partner become pregnant after being assigned to housing for students with children and you want to apply for a larger apartment: Contact Housing Assignments in writing to request a student with children application for the quarter that coincides with the second or third trimester as you will not be able to apply in Axess.
If your family status changes while living in housing
You should file an application for assignment for the current or next assignment round. If you are certain of your plans, (i.e., engaged to be married or pregnant) you may submit an application for a different category of housing for a future quarter. If we are able to assign you to the new category of housing within a reasonable period of time, you must accept the assignment. When your are assigned to a different category of housing, your original room or apartment is simultaneously assigned to another student. If you are assigned to a new category of housing mid-year, your must be able to move into the new quarters when the apartment becomes available.
