Introduction to Financial Economics

Modern portfolio theory and corporate finance. Topics: present value and discounting, interest rates and yield to maturity, various financial instruments including financial futures, mutual funds, the efficient market theory, basic asset pricing theory, the capital asset pricing model, and models for pricing options and other contingent claims. Use of derivatives for hedging.

Prerequisite

ECON 51 and ECON 102A (or equivalents) and approval from Economics Department

  • A permission number is required to enroll in this course. Visiting students who have taken courses at another academic institution that are equivalent to the listed prerequisite(s) must submit the Prerequisite Form to the Economics Department in order to register for this class.
  • This course is offered as part of the Summer Intensive in International Management, and qualifies toward the Certificate of Completion in International Management.
