Jan-Peter Olters, a German national, has been Country Manager in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, based in Dushanbe, since April 2017, in which position he leads the World Bank’s policy dialogue and manages overall program delivery.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Olters was serving as Acting Country Manager in Uzbekistan (2016–17), Lead Economist with the Governance Global Practice (2016), and Country Manager in Kosovo (2011–15). He joined the World Bank in 2007 as head of the Country Office in Montenegro (2007–11), following a nine-year career at the International Monetary Fund (1998-2007).
Mr. Olters held teaching positions at McGill University, Canada, and the Community College of Vermont, USA, and worked in media, including as Co-Editor of World Economic Affairs.
Mr. Olters holds a doctorate degree in Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He has published articles in refereed journals and authored other professional publications on topics related to political economy, macroeconomics, and natural resource economics. Mr. Olters speaks German, English, French and Albanian.
