Couples and Family Summer Eligibility and Guarantee
- Couples without children and families with one to three children are not guaranteed housing, but can usually all be accommodated if eligible for summer housing.
- Stanford two-student couples who choose not to live together on an ongoing basis cannot live in couples' housing for the summer only.
- At Stanford, a domestic partnership is defined as an established, long-term partnership between two people with an exclusive mutual commitment in which the partners share the necessities of life and ongoing responsibility for their mutual welfare.
- Students with children may or may not be married or in a domestic partnership.
- Partners/spouses and children must be living in the apartment with the students for at least 50% of each week.
- Students with shared custody of their children qualify for this type of housing if the children physically occupy the apartment at least 50% of each week.
- If you are expecting a child, you may apply for Student with Children Housing for the quarter that corresponds to the second trimester of pregnancy.
- Chances of being assigned to on-campus housing are improved if students apply by the first-round deadline and indicate on their applications that they are willing to live in any residence for which they are eligible.
Stanford Matriculated Graduate Students
- Current Stanford students with academic year student housing contracts (ending in June) need to apply for summer housing if they are planning to stay for summer quarter. The end date of your contract can be found in Axess.
- Incoming graduate students can apply for a summer contract the quarter before they become enrolled. They will not, however, have access to University facilities such as gyms, libraries, etc. until they are enrolled. The latest summer move-in date through the Continuous Assignments process is July 24, 2015.
- Students with academic year student housing contracts (ending in June) who graduate in June can apply for student housing to stay for an 8 week summer contract (ending August 16, 2015) or for the Bar Review contract if graduating from Law School (ending August 3, 2015).
- Students whose spouse/partner will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for couple housing.
- Students whose children or legal wards will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for family housing.
- Students enrolled for the summer have priority for housing.
Enrolled Summer Visitors
- Students enrolled for the Summer Quarter in Stanford classes on the main campus, with official student status.
- Graduate students enrolling only for the Summer Quarter may apply for on campus summer housing with a contact length that matches the length of the courses being taken.
- Students whose spouse/partner will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for couple housing.
- Students whose children or legal wards will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for family housing.
Stanford Postdoctoral Scholars
- Postdoctoral scholars who will be enrolled for the summer term and are housing-eligible can apply to stay for an eight week contract, ending on August 16, 2015.
- Students whose spouse/partner will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for couple housing.
- Students whose children or legal wards will be living with them at least 50% of each week are eligible for family housing.
