Ears for Peers

Ears for Peers (E4P) is a student-to-student peer listening group for the Stanford School of Medicine community. Our trained E4P Peer Mentors provide free and confidential counseling to School of Medicine students. We hope to provide a comfortable place for students to discuss anything from everyday stressors such as academics, research, clinics, family issues, and relationships, to name just a few possible topics. The E4P Peer Mentors are School of Medicine students themselves.

E4P 2.0 is coming!

Ears for Peers is getting a makeover and recruiting Peer Mentors! In an effort to better match the needs and schedules of Stanford medical students, the Ears for Peers (E4P) program is being restructured. We modeled E4P 2.0 after peer mentoring programs that have experienced long-term success at other medical schools. Here are the highlights of E4P 2.0:

  • ·       Variety of ways to connect (in person, phone, email, etc.)
  • ·       Flexible hours (Peer Mentor and student can find a mutually convenient time)
  • ·       Everyday stressors only (crisis situations will be redirected to CAPS or The Bridge)
  • ·       ~ 3-4 Peer Mentors per class (SMS1-4+), with profiles on the E4P web site for increased visibility
  • ·       Peer Mentors serve for duration of medical school with option to step out
  • ·       1-2 day training to occur late summer or early fall
  • ·       Quarterly meetings

Training for E4P Peer Mentors

E4P Peer Mentors receive training from Dr. Alejandro Martinez and the Bridge Team in peer-to-peer counseling techniques. We aim to provide a warm and compassionate environment for students to discuss everyday frustrations. E4P Peer Mentors are students who have been trained to listen and respond without giving advice. We are committed to helping the students of the School of Medicine community make their time at Stanford meaningful, successful, and memorable.
