"PALS" Program

The PALS Program-
A medical school class which offers a unique learning experience

Program description

Pals at the Halloween party in 2005.

'Pals' is a unique educational program designed to aid children and families coping with chronic illness and to augment medical student education. 'Pals' includes kids between the ages of 3-17 referred by their LPCH social worker or medical provider. Medical students participating in 'Pals' develop relationships with chronically ill children based on the Big Brother/Big Sister program model. In addition, students attend bi-monthly seminars focusing on childhood chronic illness and family dynamics. The goals of the program are to nurture compassion in new medical students and provide mentoring and support to children. Students receive class credit for their participation. The duration of this program is the academic year September through May.
