Bill Mitch, associate professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Stanford, will discuss an issue of growing concern. As population grows and supplies of pristine water become more limited, utilities are beginning to use impaired freshwater supplies. In addition, much of current population growth is in coastal areas, where muncipal waste effluents negatively impact important estuarine ecosystems.
