RECRUITMENT:

We are writing to request your recommendations in connection with our recruitment of the next Chief Administrative Officer & Vice Chair for Business Affairs, Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.  Weill Cornell has initiated a nationwide search for an accomplished academic business executive and has asked that we widely communicate this search.   We are soliciting nominations from leaders in academic medicine throughout the nation.  We request your assistance by your nomination of highly qualified individuals who are prepared to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity.

The recent announcement that Tipton Ford, the Department’s CAO, will transition from Weill Cornell to take a new position as Managing Director of Ambulatory and Outpatient Services at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center prompts this search for his successor.  The next CAO will focus on positioning and supporting the Department to continue to grow and prosper under the direction of its Chair, Augustine MK Choi, MD.  This is an important role for a seasoned administrative and business executive who is skilled at managing a large, complex academic enterprise and who appreciates the importance of collegial decision making and political leadership.

The CAO, functioning as the senior administrative and business executive of the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Department of Medicine, provides leadership for a wide range of functions for an academic department of remarkable scale.  He/She is responsible for ensuring the success and efficient operation of the Department and strength of the business functions supporting this complex academic clinical and research enterprise with an annual budget of over $300M and $51M in annual extramural research funding.  The Department is organized into 16 traditional divisions with 460 full-time faculty, over 1,500 voluntary/affiliate/part-time/emeritus faculty, and 219 residents and fellows engaged in clinical and research training.  Clinical faculty are members of the Weill Cornell Physicians Organization whose inpatient faculty practice is concentrated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, ranked #7 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report and the top hospital in NYC.  The historic accomplishments of this Department, the largest in the Medical College, stem from a remarkable and enduring partnership between Weill Cornell and NewYork-Presbyterian.

The Department of Medicine has never been stronger nor has its significance been more appreciated than at present.  In addition to large and vibrant clinical and research activities sponsored by Weill Cornell, the Department’s faculty and staff provide leadership for in-patient and specialty out-patient services sponsored by the NewYork-Presbyterian.

Korn Ferry is assisting the Department of Medicine with this important search.  We would sincerely appreciate your forwarding nominations of highly qualified academic executives to me directly by email or phone.

Thank you for your consideration and for your confidential suggestion of potential candidates.
