Kids' Day at the Clark Center

The air was thick with the smell of strawberries June 21 at the first annual Clark Center Kids' Day. Youngsters learned to pull DNA out of the fruit [top], assisted by bioengineering graduate student Andy Loening and Jill Sakata, the educational and fellowship manager for the Bio-X program. At the slime central booth, neurosciences graduate student Rachel Kalmar [bottom] introduced kids to the exciting things that polymers can do. There was also face painting, remote-control car racing and an arts and crafts contest, imparting the lesson that science isn't just amazing, it's also fun.
