American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Information & Referral Center at Stanford
Who we are
The American Parkinson Disease Association Information & Referral Center (APDA I&R Center) at Stanford University Medical Center is a partnership between the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. and Stanford University.
- Our goal: We provide Parkinson's Disease patients, their families, friends, physicians, and other medical professionals with education, assistance, and resources to help understand and manage Parkinson's Disease and to improve the quality of life for both patient and caregiver.
- Anyone in Northern California: We provide education and information to anyone in Northern California -- whether affiliated with Stanford or not. We are the only center in Northern California.
- Live outside Northern California? The APDA funds over 20 such information and referral centers in the US at major university medical centers and hospitals. Find an I&R Center near you.

Northern and Central California-specific Information
Support Groups. Find a group near you! Some are open to anyone in the PD community, others for those with young onset PD, and those for caregivers only. Groups are wonderful places to:
- learn new information
- stay updated on research and treatment
- become motivated to maximize strengths and minimize impediments
- share tips
- socialize
- gain support
Exercise Classes. Find a Parkinson's exercise class near you! Some are free and some charge a reasonable fee.
Fall Prevention Classes. Find a fall prevention class near you!

Information Anywhere You Are
Email List. Sign up for our "Stanford PD Info" email list -- no more than 4 emails per month and all on PD. We don't use this list to fundraise. All of the emails are posted to our blog.
Website. We've read and viewed many Parkinson's print and video resources. We've developed lists of some of our favorites...so you don't have to spend your time looking.

Print Materials. Available free of charge from the American Parkinson Disease Association office in New York:
- Booklets dealing with symptoms and medications, support, physiotherapy, speech problems and equipment to be used in the home -- many available in other languages, including Spanish
- Educational supplements dealing with specific subjects related to Parkinson's disease
- Quarterly newsletter focusing upon the latest developments in research and treatment of the disease
"R" is for Referral
This I&R Center also provides referrals to:
- movement disorder specialists in Northern California
- neurologists (if there are no movement disorder specialists in your area)
- speech therapists
- physical therapists
- occupational therapists
- other healthcare professionals
