- You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate.
- Your visit should be anticipated by your host at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and she or he should have informed the Main Gate that you are expected.
From San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Exit the airport and merge on to 101 S via the ramp to San Jose.
Take exit # 414B to merge on to CA-92 W (direction of Half Moon Bay). Take exit # 8 to merge on to I-280 S toward San Jose, and travel approximately 10 miles. Take exit #24, Sand Hill Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) and travel approximately 0.8 miles to the main entrance of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This will be a right turn at the traffic light at the Saga Lane intersection. You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate on Sand Hill Road.
From San Jose International Airport (SJC)
Start out going South on Airport Boulevard toward I-880. Merge on to I-880 S toward Santa Cruz. Take the exit onto I-280 N toward San Francisco and travel approximately 18 miles. Take exit #24, Sand Hill Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) and travel approximately 0.8 miles to the main entrance of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This will be a right turn at the traffic light at the Saga Lane intersection. You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate on Sand Hill Road.
From Highway 101, driving South
If north of CA-92, follow directions as from San Francisco International Airport, above. Otherwise, take Willow Road exit west, #404B. Drive 1.2 miles. Turn left at traffic light on to Middlefield Road. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn right at traffic light on to University Avenue. Go 0.7 miles. Immediately after the underpass turn right at the traffic light to merge on El Camino Real. Travel 0.4 miles. Turn left on to Sand Hill Road (traffic light). Continue for approximately 2.5 miles to the main entrance of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This will be a left turn at the traffic light at the Saga Lane intersection. You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate on Sand Hill Road.
From Highway 101, driving North
Take exit #402 to Embarcadero Road West. Continue on to Embarcadero Road for approximately 2 miles and drive across El Camino Real. You will then be on the Stanford campus and Embarcadero Road becomes Galvez Street. After 0.3 miles bear right at the fork in the road, on to Arboretum Road. After 0.7 miles turn left at traffic light on to Sand Hill Road. Continue for 2.2 miles to the main entrance of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This will be a left turn at the traffic light at the Saga Lane intersection. You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate on Sand Hill Road. .
Take exit #24, Sand Hill Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) and travel approximately 0.8 miles to the main entrance of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This will be a right turn at the traffic light at the Saga Lane intersection. You will be asked to show ID at the Main Gate on Sand Hill Road.
SLAC does not have reserved parking, or pay parking. However, parking can be difficult to find at certain times of day. To park near Building 40 for SIMES, turn left after passing the entrance station. Follow the road as it curves, and take the 1st or 2nd driveways on your right into a parking lot. Another parking lot is at on the left after the Stanford Guest House (do not park there).

McCullough Building
There are posted signs that indicate the location of the McCullough Building. From the parking structure, cross Via Ortega and walk down the central corridor of the Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2). Continue along the arcade past the Jen-Hsun Huang building, then cross the open, grassy area on the paved walkway. The McCullough building is at the end of this walkway, to your right. Enter through doors in center of building. See Map.
From San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Exit the airport and merge on to 101 S via the ramp to San Jose. Travel approximately 7 miles and take exit #414B to CA-92 West (direction Half Moon Bay). Go 4.7 miles and take exit #8 on to Interstate 280 South (direction San Jose). Go about 9 miles. Take exit #24, Sand Hill Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) and travel approximately 2.5 miles down Sand Hill Road to Stock Farm Road (traffic light). Turn right, go 0.4 miles. Turn left at Campus Drive West and go 0.2 miles. Turn right on to Panama Street (stop sign) and go 0.2 miles. The parking structure will be on your left, on the corner of the intersection of Panama and Via Ortega.
From San Jose International Airport (SJC)
Exit airport on to Terminal Drive. Continue to Airport Blvd. Merge on to Interstate 880 (direction Santa Cruz). Travel approximately 3 miles and take exit #1B to Interstate 280 (direction San Francisco). Travel 16.6 miles and take exit #22, Alpine Road. Turn right at stop sign on to Alpine Road and travel 1.1 miles. Turn right at traffic light on to Junipero Serra Blvd and travel approximately 0.5 miles. Turn left on to Campus Drive West (traffic light) and go 0.7 miles. Turn right on to Panama Street (stop sign) and go 0.2 miles. The parking structure will be on your left, on the corner of the intersection of Panama and Via Ortega.
Take exit # 402, Embarcadero Road West (signed to Stanford). Travel on to Embarcadero Road for approximately 2 miles, crossing El Camino Real. You will then be on the Stanford campus. Embarcadero Road becomes Galvez Street. Stay in the left lane until you pass Arboretum Road. Then switch to the right lane. Turn right on to Campus Drive East. After passing Palm Drive, Campus Drive East will become Campus Drive West. On your right, you will pass the Stanford Medical Center, then the Clark Center. There will be a stop sign at Via Ortega. Turn left on to Via Ortega. Continue on Via Ortega until you come to the four-story parking structure near the end of Via Ortega and Panama Drive.
From Interstate 280, driving South
Take exit #24, Sand Hill Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) and travel approximately 2.5 miles down Sand Hill Road to Stock Farm Road (traffic light). Turn right, go 0.4 miles. Turn left at Campus Drive West and go 0.2 miles. Turn right on to Panama Street (stop sign) and go 0.2 miles. The parking structure will be on your left, on the corner of the intersection of Panama and Via Ortega.
From Interstate 280, driving North
Take exit #24, Alpine Road, to the east (toward Palo Alto / Stanford) for approximately 1-1/2 miles and turn right at the next traffic signal on to Junipero Serra Boulevard. Turn left at the next traffic signal, Campus Drive West. Continue around Campus Drive West as it curves to the right. Turn right on to Panama Street (stop sign) and go 0.2 miles. The parking structure will be on your left, on the corner of the intersection of Panama and Via Ortega.
On the corner of Via Ortega and Panama Drive on the right side, there is a parking structure (“S-2” on the map). If you have been provided with a parking permit, park in an “A” slot. Otherwise, you will need quarters to park in a Visitor slot. Parking costs $1.50/hour (do NOT use an A-permit in metered parking areas). Parking enforcement hours end after 4 PM on weekdays.
