Summer Session for International Honors Program (IHP) Students

Stanford Summer Session’s International Honors Program (IHP) is a collaboration between Stanford University and specific international teaching and research institutions. All IHP students are endorsed through a selective admissions process, initiated at their home institution.

Program Dates

Eight-Week Courses: Saturday, June 24 – Sunday, August 20

About the Program

International Honors Program (IHP) students are selected by their home university to attend an eight-week program on Stanford’s campus. This year, IHP students will come from 22 different universities in 14 countries around the world. The program combines top-notch academics with extracurricular activities that explore the rich cultural, social and geographical resources of the San Francisco Bay Area. The IHP experience is invaluable, especially for students who choose to pursue graduate or professional training in the United States.

Academic Standards

As a part of IHP, students have the opportunity to academically excel at one of the most competitive universities in the United States. Summer courses feature smaller class sizes, accessible instructors, and a diverse student body. IHP students are required to enroll in at least 8 units and can choose from more than 170 courses offered by 40 departments within the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Engineering. NOTE: It is suggested for institutions that do not award transfer credits to encourage their students to participate in our Intensive Studies Certificate program.

IHP participants and potential partner institutions may send inquiries to: summerhonors@stanford.edu. Due to varying time zones, please allow up to two business days for a response.

“This will be an experience that I will remember for all of my life.”

Application Information

Although IHP students may be pre-selected by their home university to attend, a special application is still required in order to collect background information, contact details, and Student Visa documentation. The Personal Statement is optional, yet recommended for those students applying for SVIA or who are interested in the Marketing Team. Students who have already been identified by their home institution will receive a specific IHP application link from their International Office by March 1, 2017.

The IHP application will open March 1, 2017, and will remain open until March 31, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Please note that there is an application fee of $50 (the IHP application does not follow tiered application deadlines and fees). It is strongly recommended that IHP students complete the application as quickly as possible and be ready to enroll in courses when registration begins on Sunday, April 9. For visa processing purposes, all I-20 documentation should be submitted as soon as possible and will not be accepted after April 20, 2017.
