What does "the environment" look like? Do scientists and engineers view the natural world differently from writers, artists, journalists and economists? What are the differences, and where are the overlaps? And what implications do these have for how we address complex environmental problems? A groundbreaking conference co-sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Center and Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment will address these and other compelling issues.

Construction has begun on the new Environment and Energy Building, a "coming together" place that will be home to the Woods Institute and other interdisciplinary programs, from Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in the Environment and Resources (IPER) to the Bill Lane Center for the Study of the American West. The building is the first of four that will make up the new Science & Engineering Quadrangle (SEQ II), located just northwest of the Main Quad.
