One of the foundations of the Heinz Family Philanthropies, the Heinz Family Foundation is best known for its sponsorship and administration of the prestigious Heinz Awards.

The Heinz Awards

The Heinz Awards were created in 1993 to honor the late Senator John Heinz. They celebrate his accomplishments and spirit. And they acknowledge the inspirational and transformational potential of individuals in American society.

Annually, the Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the following areas of endeavor:
  • Arts and Humanities
  • Environment
  • Human Condition
  • Public Policy
  • Technology, the Economy and Employment
Every year, select individuals working in these areas each receive a $250,000 prize—making the Heinz Awards among the largest individual achievement prizes in the world.
