St. Clair River was designated an Area of Concern under the 1987 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Contaminated sediments and water affect fish and wildlife as well as recreation. Several environmental impairments have been removed in the last few years, including restrictions on dredging activities and degradation of aesthetics.
