Verification

Verification is a process that the Financial Aid Office uses to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA is accurate. Under federal student aid program rules, the Financial Aid Office can require you to provide documentation to support the information you reported on your FAFSA before your financial aid funds are disbursed.

After filing your FAFSA, you will receive a confirmation email message called a Student Aid Report. Your Student Aid Report may include a message saying that you have been selected for verification. Another indicator that you have been selected for verification is an asterisk (*) next to the Expected Family Contribution amount in the upper right corner of your Student Aid Report.

The documentation requirements that apply to you will depend on several factors. You should follow the instructions on the Verification form for which the web address appears in your To Do List in Axess. If you have questions about your requirements, you can contact the Financial Aid Office.

You should navigate to the web address for the Verification form that you see in your To Do List. You can print out the form and complete all sections by hand. Or, you can download the PDF document to your computer, then open the document with a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, then complete all sections of the "fillable" form. However, you will still need to print the completed form and add your signature. The form also must be signed by your spouse (if applicable) or your pa. rent (if you are dependent).

It depends on your responses to the questions on the form. Some students and parents will need to provide IRS Tax Return Transcripts, IRS Non-Filer Status Letters, W-2 earnings forms, and/or other documents in addition to the Verification form.

We recommend that you scan your completed Verification form and supporting documents into PDF format, then upload them using our secure Document Upload web form. You may also mail or deliver paper documents to the Financial Aid Office, 355 Galvez Street, Stanford, CA 94305-6106.

Typical processing time for Verification documents is four to six weeks, or longer during busy periods. Your Verification documents must be reviewed and approved, and any follow-up questions resolved, before you can receive financial aid funds as credits to your university account, and before you can begin your Federal Work-Study job. There is not a specific deadline date, but we encourage you to submit your documents as quickly as possible.

Please wait until you have all required supporting documents so that you can submit everything at once. We will not be able to process your documents until everything is received.
