Kate Lowry received her PhD from Stanford University in the Ocean Biogeochemistry Laboratory led by Professor Kevin R. Arrigo. Prior to beginning her doctoral work, Kate received her B.S. and M.S. in the interdisciplinary Earth Systems Program at Stanford University. Kate's dissertation focused on the influence of sea ice and hydrography on phytoplankton bloom dynamics in the Chukchi Sea. Her methods include oceanographic fieldwork and satellite remote sensing. Since 2010, Kate has participated in seven polar expeditions in both the Arctic (Chukchi and Beaufort Seas) and Antarctic (Amundsen Sea, Ross Sea, and Western Antarctic Peninsula) aboard research icebreakers USCGC Healy and RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer.
