Mathematics Diploma Ceremony 2017

Graduates and their family and friends are cordially invited to the Mathematics diploma ceremony following the University’s ceremony. The diploma ceremony is a joint ceremony with the Mathematical and Computational Science (MCS) and Statistics departments.

12:30 – 1:30pm

General Information

Location
The diploma ceremony will take place in the oak grove between Sequoia Hall and Sloan Hall (Math Corner).

Time
Graduates and guests should head directly to the diploma ceremony following the main ceremony in the stadium. The main ceremony should end by 11:30 and the diploma ceremony will begin at 12:30pm and lasts until approximately 1:30pm. There will be light refreshments available before the diploma ceremony.

Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for guests. There will be plenty of seating, however, guests may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. The majority of seating is in the shade.

For Graduates

Attendance
All graduates (autumn, winter, spring) and “walks” (summer) must complete our webform regardless of whether you intend to participate in the Diploma Ceremony. You will receive an email with the webform in spring quarter.

Cap and Gown
Beginning March 13, you can pre-order your cap and gown online via Stanford bookstore. You must wear a cap and gown to walk in the ceremony.

The deadline for ordering is Friday, May 12, 2017. Online orders and open-stock will be available from the Bookstore lower level on June 9. (Limited stock is available at the bookstore the day of graduation.)

Arrival Time
We ask that all guests and graduates be seated by 12:20pm, as the ceremony will begin at 12:30pm.

Graduate Seating
All graduates will be seated alphabetically by program/degree in the section on the right side facing the stage. Upon arrival at the grove, please look for the “RESERVED FOR GRADUATES” sign and locate your name. If you cannot find a chair with your name, find your student services officer immediately and let her know.

Accessibility
If you or your family need accessible seating, please indicate how many seats you will need in the RSVP webform. There will be a marked section of chairs for guests with wheelchairs and their families on the left side facing the stage. Please check in with student services for the correct location of these seats.

For Guests

Location
The department ceremony will take place in the oak grove between Sequoia Hall and Sloan Hall (map link) where Lomita Mall meets Serra Mall.

Time
Graduates and guests should arrive directly from the University’s ceremony at 11:45am. Everyone should be seated by 12:20pm. The ceremony will begin at 12:30pm

General Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for your guests; We will have plenty of seating for your guests, however, they may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. The majority of seating is in the shade.

Photography
There will be no professional photography at the event, but there will be a photography area to the left of the stage. We politely ask that you leave the photography area once your graduate has walked across the stage so that other guests may have the opportunity to take photos.

Food
We highly recommend eating prior to the University ceremony and also bringing snacks to eat throughout the morning. The department will provide light refreshments before the diploma and awards ceremony. Food will be available to guests at 11:15 up until the start of the ceremony at 12:30pm.

There will be a marked section of chairs for guests with wheelchairs and their families to sit. Upon arrival, please have your graduate check-in with their student services officer, Gretchen Lantz or Samantha Stone. Restrooms
Sequoia Hall will be open from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday.

Parking
Parking for the main Commencement ceremony is available in the parking lots surrounding the Stadium. https://commencement.stanford.edu/plan-your-visit/parking. Please note that some lots require a permit. Parking for guests with state-issued or temporary disabled parking permits is available in the Varsity Lot.

We recommend leaving your car near the stadium and walking to the department ceremony. Sequoia Hall and Sloan Hall (map link)
