2,298 Stanford cyclists rallied to this year’s Bike to Work Day, held on May 11. By opting to use pedal power instead driving a car, these riders saved 7,567 pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Cyclists reported riding 8,351 miles, an increase of 999 miles over 2016. Highest mileage self-reported was from Union City (64 miles) and a one-way rider from Gilroy (56 miles).  Other riders also reported high mileage, including those coming from San Jose (45+ miles), Fremont/Hayward (25+ miles), Campbell (40 miles), and San Francisco (30+) miles.

In addition, Stanford walkers on Bike to Work Day more than tripled vs. last year, with 411 walkers checking in.

Thanks to the more than 55 volunteers who came out in the early morning hours to welcome commuters at our 14 Stanford-affiliated Energizer Stations. We are grateful for your support!

“This morning we rode together on the Bay Trail between our office in Menlo Park and Mountain View.  It's one of our favorite places to ride- so beautiful!  Although only a few of us were able to join this morning, there are in fact many cyclists at Planning, Design and Construction that hit the trails together weekly.  Our department **loves** to pedal!”
