Permanent parking impacts are expected in late June as part of the Escondido Village Graduate Residences project.
On Tuesday, June 27, 2017, the Jenkins Court, McFarland Court, and Hoskins Court parking lots will be closed. These are permanent, total lot closures to facilitate continued construction.
‘ES’ and ‘ES’/‘C’ parking spaces will be directly impacted by these closures. In addition, commuter parking demand throughout the northeast part of campus will increase.
Stanford Parking & Transportation Services will be monitoring parking demand as these closures are implemented and will make adjustments as necessary.After the closures take effect, the remaining parking spaces are projected to accommodate all ‘ES’ and ‘C’-permit holders. However, those who regularly park in this area of campus should expect parking to become tighter and, at times, to be further from their homes or worksites.
New loading zones and parking alternatives
Residents of Escondido Village, Mirrielees, and Rains are encouraged to utilize the 10 loading zones that will be established on June 20 throughout the affected area. All 10 loading zones are for the use of ‘ES’-permit holders only. Four of the loading zones are meant for residents of specific buildings–two each for Hoskins and McFarland mid-rises.
Residents parking after hours or on weekends can consider parking in the Maples Lot, Wilbur Field Garage, and Knight Management Center Garage, since enforcement of commuter and visitor lots is limited to Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m (or as posted). As such, residents may consider 'C' and visitor parking "free" from 4 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, unless otherwise indicated.

Resources for affected populations
Residents are encouraged to consider alternative transportation options, such as on-demand, on-campus vehicles (i.e., Zipcar car sharing and Enterprise Rent-A-Car), and alternative modes, such as biking, walking, and transit, including riding the Marguerite. In the fall, Parking & Transportation Services will be offering incentives for residents who choose not to purchase a long-term parking permit.
Employees should also consider sustainable transportation options to reduce the need to park on campus. Both employees and residents can reach out to us at commuteclub@stanford.edu for information on alternatives to bringing a car to campus.
About the EVGR project
The Escondido Village Graduate Residences project will increase graduate housing on campus with 2,400 new beds, enabling the university to provide affordable housing to future graduate students and their families. Two parking garages will also be constructed as part of the project. Parking and traffic impacts are expected throughout the construction process, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
