Biography

Eric Klinenberg is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University. Since 2013, he has also served as research director for the Rebuild By Design competition, a federal program to rebuild critical infrastructure in the region affected by Superstorm Sandy. Klinenberg's books on the urban environment include Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy in Disaster in Chicago (University of Chicago Press) and the edited volume, Climate Change and the Future of Cities (Duke University Press/Public Books). He is also the author of the best-selling books Modern Romance (with Aziz Ansari) and Going Solo: The Extraordinary Rise and Surprising Appeal of Living Alone, and his scholarly work has been published in journals including the American Sociological Review, Theory and Society, and Ethnography. Klinenberg is a frequent contributor to publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Wired, Le Monde Diplomatique, The London Review of Books, and the radio program, This American Life.
