Open Space Management Model

There are more than 1,100 land trusts across the United States, which collectively, have conserved more than 56 million acres of land—about double the amount of public land in national parks in the lower 48 states. Often these dynamic conservation areas are overseen by a relatively small staff who may not have access to the range of resources and capital necessary to make conservation management decisions that are fully informed by data and research.

Tobacco Labeling Assessment

With knowledge of tobacco’s harmful health effects, the prevalence of cigarette smoking in the U.S. has significantly declined. However, with population growth, the total number of smokers has remained relatively stable at around 40 million people. Cigarette smoking remains the number one cause of preventable death in the U.S.

Plant Life Performance

Live interactive performances can be a meaningful tool for educating the public about environmental change. This project will culminate in the composition of a site-specific performance for public gardens and landscapes that will educate audiences about conservation, and examine the environmental impacts of our relationship with plants.

Water and Energy Connections

Water and energy are integrally linked. Energy is used throughout the entire water supply system for extraction, purifying, distribution and delivery, heating and later for wastewater collection and treatment. On the other hand, water is used in energy extraction, production, transportation and storage; electricity generation; refining and processing fuel; and power plant cooling among other functions.

Menu Messaging to Reduce Meat Consumption

High levels of meat consumption pose severe environmental and health risks. Globally, livestock produce 14.5 to 18 percent of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions, an amount larger than the entire transportation sector. Moreover, residents of many developed countries consume far more meat than is considered healthy.
