Natural Capital Project to Develop Marine Conservation Software

The Natural Capital Project—a collaboration of the Woods Institute, The Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund—has been awarded a two-year, $1.97 million grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to develop a software program for mapping and evaluating the economic benefits provided by temperate marine ecosystems.

Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla says that the world must create technology alternatives that are affordable and widely accepted by consumers. Khosla spoke at the annual Conradin von Gugelberg Memorial Lecture on the Environment co-sponsored by the Woods Institute and Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

2009 Environmental Venture Projects Grants (Deadline: Jan. 9, 2009)

Stanford faculty are invited to submit letters of intent for the 2009 Environmental Venture Projects program grants. This year marks the sixth round of EVP grants, which provide seed funding for interdisciplinary research leading to practical solutions for an environmentally sustainable world. Deadline for application is Jan. 9, 2009. Proposals from all schools, departments, and disciplines are welcomed and encouraged. Letters of intent can be submitted at: http://woods.stanford.edu/evp/evp.html.

Woods Environmental Undergraduate Research Program (Deadline: Dec. 12, 2008)

Stanford faculty are invited to submit applications for the winter term Environmental Undergraduate Research Program (Woods-EURP), which offers internship opportunities for Stanford undergraduates to work on research projects with environmental faculty and research staff. Deadline for application is December 15, 2008.
