World's Freshwater Increasingly Vulnerable

Global risk assessments may be overlooking a crucial issue. Many nations and regions already facing uncertain political futures must contend with a growing threat to stabilization – freshwater vulnerability – according to a study co-authored by researchers in Woods’ Global Freshwater Initiative (GFI). Among its striking findings: institutional issues – usually corruption – are the most common factors behind water supply vulnerability in the low-income nations analyzed. Through the work of GFI and other innovative, cross-disciplinary efforts, Woods researchers aim to understand the commonalities – and, thus, solutions – that environmental challenges present around the globe.
