At first there did not appear to be any method to download for offline viewing. In fact, there is, but only on a section by section or article by article basis. A download of the entire daily edition happened automatically on my iPad. Not having it here, and requiring several clicks to get the download of articles or sections done is a big drawback. Also, the gesture controls are more limited than on the iPad. The download task is hidden in the tool bar - three dots in the lower right hand corner, and should be more prominent.

Nice clean layout, stable, but it is inconvenient that when returning to the articles list from reading an article, it doesn't remember the position and always goes to the top of the list. Otherwise, looks and works great on Surface Pro

Although the Journal is a must have app, I only sparsely use the Windows version until now. The current update contains the "today's paper" edition that is sorely needed, in addition to the "latest news" edition. The iPad & Android versions actually feel dated compared to the great layout of this one. I have a main complaint: there is no option to auto-download via Wi-Fi in the Windows version. WSJ apparently assumes all Windows users are desktop users.

I recently began making the transition from apple to Microsoft because of the surface and the possibility of having a pc and tablet all in one. However, the "app" is really just a shortcut and far inferior to the IPad version. The main issue being you need a connection to access it. Why can't it be made to perform as the IOS version and download today's edition for viewing on flights etch where you don't have WiFi? Otherwise it's useless as a tablet. At this point, I am still carrying the IPad for this very reason. Otherwise the surface is great, but until Microsoft get's a better app store in general, you really just have a pc.

App works great to read articles whole connected, but I use my Surface pro and having to download section by section is not user friendly or efficient. This app would be my go-to if it had the same Download Today's Issue option that is available for the iPad app.

*Update: I installed the new Windows 10 Creators Update operating system and the Live Tiles started working again properly. Still no change on the dark theme. I would get a lot more utility from the app if the live tiles worked properly. That way, I could see highlights and interesting headlines that I may not have seen otherwise. So far, the live tiles haven't updated since I first logged in. I'm certain that 'Most Popular' isn't still that Trump beat Cruz in Iowa. A black background option, like on the Android app, would also make it easier for nighttime reading.

The new App works well on Windows 10 devices, and the tiles look nice, but the content doesn't download automatically for off-line reading like the Google and Apple WSJ apps. (I have been able to download individual articles or sections manually, but I can't open them when off-line because the app can't verify that I'm a WSJ subscriber.) If I have to be on-line to use the app, then I might as well read it on my browser. The Microsoft development team tells me they are working on an automatic download function, and it can't come soon enough. I am a Microsoft fan and a WSJ fan, but this app still makes me long for my old iPad.

This updated universal app for The Wall Street Journal is vastly improved over its poorly done previous app. The layout and design is modern and clean. Load times greatly improved and no crashes, so far. Worth giving a second try.

12/13/15 - The app was finally fixed and is updating again for win 10 devices - It works great on Windows tablets AND my Lumia 950XL. I think Dow Jones finally paid attention to the feedback here and I upgraded to 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1) The app works beautifully and reliably as a Windows 10 app (live tiles, etc.) AND 2) I received an email from WSJ tech support in response to my review thanking me for the feedback; this means that they're finally paying attention to this platform!

Compared to android version the PC version is only useful if connected. No offline paper, only individual articles. Offline articles are not organized into sections. Offline requires network to validate your paid subscription so YOU CANNOT USE OFFLINE ON A FLIGHT. Content is WSJ, but as an app terrible.
