Access and circulation

Course reserves

The Science Library provides reserve services for the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics. For more information about Course Reserves, please visit the Course reserves page.

iPads, tablets, and gadgets

Reference hours

Monday–Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, for brief assistance; by appointment for in-depth help. Reference service is limited to Stanford students, faculty, and staff.  Please send email to: sciencelibrary-reference@lists.stanford.edu

After-hour access

The Science Library grants After-hour access to individual users who have a demonstrated need for around-the-clock access to the collection in order to support their research needs. Please visit the After-hours access page for more information about eligible users and policies and procedures.

Users with limited mobility

The Science Library is located on the 3rd and 4th floor of the Science Teaching & Learning Center (formally known as Old Chemistry) and is accessible to persons with disabilities.  A step-free entrance to the library, located on the 3rd floor, is via the elevator at the southwest corner of the building. The only step-free access to the upper floor of the library (4th floor) is via the elevator (card-reader access required at all times).  A guest access card can be provided as needed from the circulation desk during hours of operation.  For individuals needing ongoing step-free access, please contact sciencelibrary@stanford.edu.

Please ask at the circulation desk for help in getting materials located on upper/lower shelves. If you will need staff help, please contact the Science Library in advance by email at sciencelibrary@stanford.edu or by phone at (650) 723-1528.
