Part I: Expert panel discusses the basics of what you need to be aware of related to your grants, your staff and rules and regs that can save you time and effort, and know where to go for questions. How to hire, pay, buy, submit, receive and end grants and contracts, mechanics of working across schools and departments, and how to stay in compliance.

Part II: A primer for building a research group of students and postdocs. Discussion offers practical steps to develop your approach in order to excel as a mentor, and the art and science of cultivating productive and healthy teams. Topics include recruiting and advising students, developing group norms, setting your student expectations, and an overview of team development processes and practical suggestions for those new to managing others.
