NIH frequently receives inquiries about allegations of research misconduct. Allegations of research misconduct are handled by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Research Integrity (ORI). ORI is the only HHS office with the authority to make findings of research misconduct on individuals for research funded by NIH. By regulation, neither NIH nor ORI can confirm or deny the existence of allegations or investigations of research misconduct in the interest of protecting all parties involved.
If an individual is found to have committed research misconduct, this information is made public through postings on the ORI Web Site .
