CHAMPS/Life Skills Program
Stanfordâ€TMs Life Skills program seeks to facilitate the success of our student-athletes in areas outside of athletics and academics. The Life Skills Program provides educational opportunities through seminars, workshops, and other programming. However, its main focus is ensuring that Stanford student-athletes take best advantage of the opportunities already available within the Athletic Department and University community.
Life Skills efforts are coordinated with Cardinal Council, Student Services, Undergraduate Advising Programs, the Sports Medicine department, the Athletic Department administration, Vaden Student Health Services, and the Career Development Center, among other groups, to increase awareness about opportunities for student-athletes and to encourage student-athlete participation in activities designed to enhance their Stanford experience.
Examples of past and future projects Life Skills promotes, presents, or works in partnership with University groups to administer:
- Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Interview Skills Workshops;
- Breakfast of Champions, a student-athlete job fair;
- Junior/Senior Alumni Career Panel Luncheon and Alumni Contact Directory;
- Cardinal Life Choices Peer Health Educator Program;
- Year-round community service activities;
- Alcohol and drug abuse prevention programming;
- Nutrition and body-image seminars and proactive education.
