HOUSTON, Texas – Stanford men's swimming scored 175 points on day two of the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships, and enters the mid-way point of the conference championship with a five-point lead in the team race.
The Cardinal scored 55 points in the finals of the 500 free thanks to a 4-5-8 finish.
Grant Shoults (4:13.73) and
Preston Forst (4:13.81) both swam NCAA provisional marks, while
True Sweetser finished eighth in the A final.
Johannes Calloni and
Andrew Matejka reached the B final to add 15 teams points in the event.
Stanford also had a 4-5-6 finish in the 200 IM.
Jonathan Affeld led the way with a 1:43.49 to finish fourth, while
Alex Liang (1:43.71) and
Shane Blinkman (1:43.79) followed just behind the freshman.
Luke Maurer (seventh, 19.92) and
Mason Gonzalez (eighth, 20.00) both reached the A final of the 50 free, with Maurer swimming a provisional mark in the event.
The 200 free relay team of Maurer, Affeld,
Rick Mihm and Gonzalez took fourth in 1:17.92.
The conference championships continue tomorrow from the University of Houston Natatorium. The Cardinal will compete in 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 200 medley relay.
