Syque Caesar returns for his sixth year as an assistant coach during the 2020-21 season after helping guide Stanford to the 2019 national championship and a No. 1 ranking to finish 2020.

Caesar has twice been named CGA National Assistant Coach of the Year and West Region Assistant Coach of the Year, capturing the honors in 2019 and 2020.

Caesar coaches all six of the competitive apparatuses, assists in teaching new skills and helps develop efficient routine constructions for the team. As an FIG Brevet judge, Caesar also aids in strategizing competitive lineups for competition. Caesar is involved with all aspects of the recruiting process from first contact to official visits. Additionally, Caesar is responsible for equipment inventory, as well as apparel. Caesar currently serves on the Executive Committee for the College Gymnastics Association. 

Caesar is also involved in the sport from the grassroots level coaching in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Age Group Program. Caesar took over as head coach of the SB Gymnastics club program in 2015 and has had athletes compete at the Future Stars National Championships, Junior Olympic National Championships and the USA Junior National Championships all within his first three years at the helm.

Caesar enjoyed an illustrious career at Michigan, where he was a five-time NCAA All-American, 2013 Nissen-Emery Award finalist, former NCAA record holder on parallel bars, All-Big Ten first team selection and a four-time team co-captain. Leading Michigan to NCAA titles in 2010, 2013 and 2014, Caesar became the first student-athlete in 53 years to be a member of three national championship teams. Caesar also guided Michigan to Big Ten championships in 2009, 2013 and 2014 while claiming Big Ten parallel bar titles in 2011 and 2013.

Caesar has international experience as well, competing for Bangladesh at the 2012 London Olympics, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 Asian Games and the World Championships in 2011 and 2013. Caesar excelled in the classroom, earning Winter Academic All-Big Ten honors from 2011-14 and was a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2012-14).

After graduating, Caesar served as a program assistant at Michigan, overseeing major administrative duties related to apparel, uniforms, travel itineraries and recruiting. Caesar also worked with the marketing department regularly to help boost competition attendance and develop new ways of fan interaction through social media. Caesar spent time enhancing the student-athlete experience by starting a fall awards banquet. He also designed and created banners for Cliff Keen Arena to improve the atmosphere.

Caesar is a 2013 graduate of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a master’s degree in sport management.
