Gary Mano joined the Stanford staff as  an assistant coach on Feb. 4, 2020.

Mano comes to The Farm with a plethora of experience both in the collegiate and prep volleyball ranks. He served as an assistant and associate head coach at San Jose State from 1996-06, and since has been the general manager, club director, coach and college recruiting coordinator at City Beach in Santa Clara, as well as, owner of Truefield Recruiting Services in San Jose.

“As I processed how to replace Denise Corlett, who had an incredible amount of experience recruiting and coaching at Stanford, what stood out the most was just how unique admissions process is at Stanford for recruits,” explained Hambly. “I wanted to find a person who understands what it is like for prospective student-athletes and parents to navigate at a high-academic institution like Stanford, and could also coach the athletes and potentially bring some continuity to the assistant coach position.

“Gary checked all the boxes and it became clear he was the best choice for the job. His experience navigating recruiting and admissions gave him a special level of empathy for that process. He can hit the ground running and will be a tremendous asset not only to our staff, but to future recruits and parents.”

City Beach is a sports facility with more than 37 boys and girls volleyball teams, and has programs that include camps, clinics and corporate events. Mano spent time assisting student-athletes with the college recruiting process there and with Truefield.

At San Jose State, Mano helped lead the Spartans to three NCAA Tournament appearances and four 20-win seasons. He played a large role in the recruiting process and coached several All-Western Athletic Conference honorees.

Mano, who earned a bachelor’s degree in international marketing from BYU in 1992 and an MBA from San Jose State in 1999, and his family reside in San Jose.
