Matt Tynan was named volunteer assistant coach ahead of the 2018-19 season. 

Tynan previously served as a graduate assistant at Texas Christian University from 2016-18 after working as a student assistant coach at George Mason from 2014-16. Tynan’s role with the Horned Frogs included working with all groups as well as coordinating student-athlete workouts. At George Mason, Tynan worked primarily with the distance and middle-distance groups while also handling administrative duties.

As a student-athlete, Tynan swam at Maryland in 2011-12 before transferring to George Mason for the 2012-13 season – he owns top-ten times in the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyles as well as the 200-yard butterfly at George Mason.

Tynan owns a bachelors’ degree in kinesiology from George Mason and a masters in kinesiology with a concentration in sports psychology from TCU. Originally from Westford, Massachusetts, Tynan comes from a family of swimmers – his father, John, swam at Loyola (Maryland), his sister, Mara, swam at Washington and Lee and his mother, Mary Ellen, is an administrator for Maine Swimming, New England Swimming and Patriot Swim Club.
