The faculty job search usually includes first-round interviews by video, phone or at a conference. Learn strategies to prepare for these short interviews. What questions can you anticipate? How should you set up your space to look and sound your best? We will devote time to practicing your answers to commonly asked questions.
The Interview Lab is an interactive meetup for you to learn about and practice interviewing techniques for jobs outside of academia. Learn what employers are looking for in an interview and how to handle a variety of behavioral questions. We’ll discuss and practice how to market the many skills and experiences you’ve gained during your graduate studies or postdoc and you will work with peers to develop the questions you want to ask. Note: this is a general workshop on behavioral fit interviewing, and will not cover specific interview types like technical and case interviews.

The final stage of the job search is negotiating the terms of your appointment so that you can thrive. These "negotiations" are not adversarial, instead we use the framing of "collaborative problem solving." We will discuss the conventional steps of the process of negotiating the details of a faculty job offer and review all of the things you can ask for, including salary, teaching, and research start-up funds. You will also learn how to navigate multiple offers. Sign up for each of the eight sessions SEPARATELY.
