Stanford University

Biosafety & Biosecurity

The Biosafety & Biosecurity group is composed of a Biosafety & Biosecurity Manager and Biosafety & Biosecurity Specialists, all with years of research experience. Our group oversees all Stanford University work with biohazardous materials and/or recombinant DNA and synthetic nucleic acids. We work closely with and sit on the Administrative Panel on Biosafety, as well as the Institutional Review Board and the Administrative Panel on Laboratory Animal Care, ensuring that Stanford researchers who use these types of biological materials have the necessary approval and employ appropriate safety measures. All group members have extensive research backgrounds and have worked in Stanford labs, allowing us to understand the needs of the researchers and how biosafety and biosecurity services can be tailored to community needs while still fulfilling Stanford, local, state and federal guidelines. Our group also works closely with others inside and outside of EH&S to aid safety and compliance in any cross-disciplinary projects, reviews and advises on “flavor of the month” infectious agents or items of interest to the campus as a whole, and provides oversight on Biosafety-related materials.
