PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

COVID-19: Changes to Parks & Recreation services: To limit the spread of COVID-19 among the public and staff, some City services are suspended during the Health Officer's Shelter at Home Order. Summer 2021 Program Registration - The City of Berkeley Recreation Division is planning to offer a wide variety of Summer 2021 programs including Summer Fun Camps, Echo Lake Family & Youth Camp programs, Berkeley Day Camp, Playground Program, and other activities and events for all ages. Registration for most Summer 2021 programs will begin this February (see below for dates).  Additional information including program dates, fees, and age ranges will be announced in the coming weeks.  All programs will be offered in compliance with City of Berkeley Health Orders, and plans may be modified prior to Summer in order to stay in compliance with public health guidelines. PRW Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) - PRW’s capital funding is made up of Recurring Capital from the Parks Tax, General Fund, Marina Fund and the Camps Fund. This $1.75 M, along with Bond Measure funds from Measure WW and now T1 Bond Measure funds are used to address our most critical unfunded needs. Measure F, the 2014 Parks Tax increase approved by Berkeley voters has increased parks tax yearly capital from $250,000 to $1,000,000 since FY2016. Capital Improvements include safety and accessibility; replacing deteriorated play equipment, repairing or replacing site furnishings; improvement to existing playing field and basic infrastructure improvements. COVID-19: Aquatics Programs - King Pool and West Campus Pool are currently open for Lap Swim (16+) and Independent Exercise (18+).  All swimmers must pre-register (online or by phone) in order to secure a lane (NO DROP-INS ALLOWED). 45 minutes time slots are available for pre-registration.  One registration allowed per day between both pools.  Locker rooms are CLOSED (except for restroom use). Tennis and Pickleball Court Rentals  - Tennis and pickleball courts are now open (except for Rose Garden at 1200 Euclid Avenue, closed for construction) and reservations can be made online. Tennis courts are for individuals (not groups, associations, clubs, businesses, or private lessons). Players must follow safety rules to use the courts.  [more...]

Skate Park Programs -

The Berkeley Skate Park is open with updated hours of operation and new safety procedures. 

The Berkeley Skate Park, located at Harrison Park (711 Harrison St.), an 18,000 square foot park that contains a large oval bowl and, fun box and areas for beginners. This site will provide you with program, special event, and rental information. Use of the park is free. Helmets required. Pads are recommended. No bikes allowed. The Skate Park will be closed during clinics, events and rainy weather. All classes cancelled during rain.

As City playgrounds open, caregivers should use masks, distance, time limits and other precautions - All of the City's 66 playgrounds are now open -- but everyone should use caution as high-touch shared surfaces and gathering places for crowds remain potential sources of virus transmission.

Those risks are always present at playgrounds, especially in flu season. But increased vigilance is needed for COVID-19, a disease for which there is neither vaccine nor treatment. [more...]
