FRENLANG 10SC: French Immersion: Contemporary Issues in the French-Speaking World

Are you interested in all things French? Do you want to increase your French proficiency through an intense immersion program right here at Stanford? The answer is "French Immersion: Contemporary Issues in the French-Speaking World," a course designed to help students move towards greater linguistic and cultural competence. French Immersion is intended for students who have completed the equivalent of a year of French. In this class you will gain the cultural, historical, and linguistic knowledge necessary for taking future advanced French courses.<br><br> In SoCo French Immersion, you will enhance your French proficiency through intensive lessons and interaction in the target language. The content will include film, literature, news videos, and songs that reflect the cultural and social realities that the French-speaking world faces today . You will gain a deeper understanding of French and Francophone cultural products and practices through the exploration of a variety of topics such as art, fashion, cuisine in current French society. The course will include a range of in-class activities, organized off-campus excursions, a cooking workshop, art projects, and more, all in French!

French Conversation (beginner) - Frenlang 60A: Beginner's French Conversation is a 1 unit conversation class. There is no requirement for the students to know French, the goal of the class is to introduce them to french culture and language. FRENLANG 60B: Intermediate French Conversation

Students are expected to have a conversational level of French. The content of the class varies depending on what students want to learn, as well as what they present on. The purpose of the class is for students to take the time to exercise and practice their french in conversation with their peers. A requirement of the class is for each student to give a 5-7 min. presentation in french about anything related to french culture. These presentations are an important part of Frenlang 60B and 60C, as they allow students to challenge themselves and speak about a topic in a foreign language. They also serve as a starting point for topics of conversation as we follow each presentation with some questions and small group discussions.

The class exposes the Stanford student community to the foundational art and science of wine and wine culture. Each class features a tasting of 4 to 6 wines, which the students will taste as well as learn about the origin, the grapes, the flavors and nuances, and the necessary vocabulary. nnnPrerequisite: 21 or older. This is the advanced wine tasting class. . Frenlang 60P holds the same structure and covers the same principles of wine tasting as French Viticulture (Frenlang 60D) but at a higher, more in depth level.nnPrerequisite: Completion of 60D.

FRENLANG 124: Advanced French: Composition, Writing, and Presentation

This bridge course prepares students for transitioning to literature classes that are taught in French. Emphasis is on the development of speaking, writing, and presenting at the advanced level. Students will review and master the difficulties of French through the study of various types of literary texts and through analysis of current events in the francophone world. Required for students majoring or minoring in French. Prerequisite: FRENLANG 23C or equivalent.

FRENLANG 127: Acting in French

This course aims to enhance students¿ French diction and enunciation while improving their oral and written discourse. Students will work with theatrical texts, discuss various ways to stage them, explore basic acting and improvisation techniques, and participate in a theatrical production. All class activities and assignments are in French. Prerequisite: Frenlang 3 or Fr2A. 3-4 units
