Bikal Sharma ’24 will serve as the new student body vice president, the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) executive cabinet announced Tuesday. Sharma’s appointment has been confirmed by the Undergraduate Senate and is currently awaiting a two-thirds majority confirmation from the Graduate Student Council.

The Undergraduate Senate unanimously passed a resolution to alter its leadership structure and confirmed this year’s election results at Monday’s meeting.

Senator Lenny DeFoe ’21 brought up athletic event policies and the on-campus parade held for the women's basketball championship: "If an event like that can happen ... then commencement should follow in pursuit or some form of it,” he said.

Following campus dialogue on reform and potential removal of Greek life at Stanford, The Daily interviewed current members and anti-Greek advocates on the equity of the process, Abolish Stanford Greek Movement and the future of Greek life at Stanford.

Around 40% of survey respondents currently say that Greek life should be abolished, and 16% say Greek life should “lose privileged housing.”

The resolution asks the University to consider implementing a campus-wide internal carbon price and to publicly make a statement in support of carbon pricing on Earth Day.

Amid COVID-19 and limited opportunities for socialization, teams set aside time for socializing outside of practices to facilitate friendships and worked on smaller video projects.

ASSU executives voiced concerns about the clarity of policies regarding service workers and RAs. Senators emphasized the need for students on campus to have realistic expectations regarding socialization and for the University to enforce public health protocol.

The resolution asks that R&DE “suspend their current process reassigning students” currently on campus for the winter quarter so that they don’t have to move over spring break.

Stanford administration announced plans to have multiple all-sophomore residences starting fall quarter of the 2021-22 academic year in an email sent to frosh.

Senators also reviewed a resolution against rehousing students for the spring quarter and made plans to discuss University communication and Opportunity Fund resources in an upcoming meeting with Vice Provost of Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole.

Senators also expressed concerns about Stanford’s recent decision to cancel plans for many undergraduates to come to campus during winter quarter and discussed pushing for academic accommodations.

It’s been an illuminating experience to watch people connect over anonymous group chats, especially since, according to several contestants in their final Zoom calls, this show brought together some people who might not have ever met each other otherwise.

Contestants had to make some tough decisions in this episode’s minigame of Kiss, Marry, Kill and in their phone calls the next day, causing quite a bit of internal conflict and several confrontations.

Undergraduate senators debated urging the University to eliminate the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) exam as a requirement for graduate studies admissions at their Thursday meeting. The senators discussed five resolutions passed by the Graduate Student Council (GSC) but did not pass any resolutions or bills of their own.
