Softball (33-22, 9-12 Pac-12) concluded their season on Sunday with a loss to No. 6 Arkansas (43-9, 19-5 SEC) in the Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA softball tournament. The loss most likely marked the end of the collegiate careers of graduate students Nikki Bauer, Teaghan Cowles, Montana Dixon, Kristina Inouye and Eleni Spirakis, as well as senior Maddy Dwyer.

In an extraordinarily busy senior weekend for softball, the Cardinal (31-20, 9-12 Pac-12) split their series with No. 5 Washington (41-11, 18-5 Pac-12), but outscored the Huskies 12 runs to six over the course of the weekend.

Softball (29-18, 8-10 Pac-12) was swept by No. 2 UCLA (38-3, 16-2 Pac-12) in four games over the weekend, though the team put up a good fight in two of them.

After having last week’s series canceled due to COVID-19 related issues, Stanford softball (24-14, 5-7 Pac-12) came back looking like a deeper and stronger team than ever, splitting its series with No. 6 Oregon (30-10, 8-7 Pac-12) in the process.

Softball (22-8, 3-3 Pac-12) improved every game it played against ninth-ranked Arizona (22-5, 6-2 Pac-12), and yet, even its very best wasn’t quite enough as it fell to the Wildcats 6-1, 5-3, and 2-0 in the final three games of the series.

Ultimately, what separates a good team from a great team in any sport is its depth. On Thursday, the ninth-ranked softball team in the nation, Arizona, demonstrated exactly why it is a great team.

In their biggest matchup of the season thus far, softball (22-4, 3-0 Pac-12) takes on No. 9 Arizona (18-5, 3-2 Pac-12) at home in their first series against a ranked opponent. Stanford’s been playing very well the last couple of games, but this will be their first real test.

•

In its first Pac-12 series of the season, softball (22-4, 3-0 Pac-12) swept Utah (11-13, 0-6 Pac-12) in all four games, including three Pac-12 games, earning its first 3-game sweep of a Pac-12 opponent since 2013.

Cardinal softball (18-4, 0-0 Pac-12) kept rolling, winning its sixth game in a row on Wednesday at BYU (11-12, 0-0 WCC).

Softball (17-4, 0-0 Pac-12) completed a three-game sweep against Loyola Marymount (10-13, 0-0 WCC) this weekend in its last series before starting Pac-12 play.

Softball (12-4, 0-0 Pac-12) was seemingly on its way to securing another two wins in its doubleheader against Saint Mary’s (7-10, 0-0 WCC), but a disastrous seventh inning for the Cardinal in game two resulted in it finishing the night 1-1.

Softball (11-3, 0-0 Pac-12) takes on Saint Mary’s California (6-9, 0-0 WCC) on Thursday in a doubleheader where Stanford should be favored to win both games.

Every game there seems to be a different group that leads the Cardinal to victory, and today’s game was no different.

•

Freshman Reagan Krause played her best softball of the season, striking out a career-high 8 batters as she watched her ERA plummet from 1.11 to .87 as the Cardinal escaped with a 1-0 win.

Stanford softball (8-2, 0-0 Pac-12) had to shake off some jitters but ultimately took care of business against BYU (7-8, 0-0 WCC) with a 5-3 victory in their first game of the DeMarini Invitational.

Over the weekend, Stanford softball (7-2, 0-0 Pac-12) played its final three games of the Stanford Invitational, first against California Baptist University (5-9, 0-0 WAC), then against Cal (4-2, 0-0 Pac-12) for the second time in 24 hours, and finally against CBU again on Sunday.

Stanford softball (5-1, 0-0 Pac-12) continued their strong start to the season with a tight 3-2 victory over Cal (2-2, 0-0 Pac-12) Friday evening.

In a rematch of Sunday’s game, Stanford softball (4-0, 0-0 Pac-12) will take on the Santa Clara University Broncos (0-1, 0-0 WCC) on Tuesday, this time at Santa Clara.

Led by a strong pitching effort and a trio of juniors each with batting averages of at least .500, the Cardinal finished its first weekend of play with a 4-0 record and high hopes for a season that could catapult Stanford into the discussion of elite softball programs on the west coast.

As a freshman last year, Terry was awarded All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Freshman Team awards as well as receiving Stanford’s Block "S" Outstanding Freshman Award. He led the Pac-12 in free throw shooting percentage at .891, which was good for 12th in the nation.

Last season, Stanford went 4-8 and missed out on a bowl game for the first time under head coach David Shaw ’95. No. 12 Oregon, the first opponent of the all Pac-12 season, won its first and only game of 2020 in the Rose Bowl. But the Cardinal just two seasons ago made a furious comeback and shocked Oregon in Autzen Stadium.

Men’s basketball (11-2, 0-0 Pac-12) opens conference play Thursday night at home against cross-bay rival Cal (6-7, 0-0 Pac-12). Stanford will be trying to bounce back from a tough 56-72 loss on Dec. 29 to then-No. 5 Kansas (10-2, 0-0 Big 12) and continue building the positive momentum the Cardinal had for most of December.

On December 29th, the men’s basketball team (11-1, 0-0 Pac-12) will take on No. 5 Kansas (9-2, Big 12) in its biggest matchup of the year. Stanford is off to its best start since 2008. If the Cardinal manage to pull off an upset, they will be 12-1 for the first time since 2003, which was the last time they were ranked No. 1 overall. In 2003, Stanford beat Kansas, who was the top-ranked team at the time.
