Message from the Chief

Dr. Frederic Kraemer, MD
Professor of Medicine, Division Chief of Endocrinology, Gerontology and Metabolism

Welcome to the Division of Endocrinology, Gerontology and Metabolism website. As a leading center for research, clinical studies, consultation, and treatment, our faculty is dedicated to providing patients with the latest therapies in the care and management of comples endocrine diseases and diabetes. The Division has a longstanding tradition of excellence in research, highlighted by major discoveries in the areas of insulin resistance and diabetes. Research efforts are supported by government and private funding and include diverse areas such as hormone action, various aspects of diabetes, obesity, growth disorders, bone metabolism, pituitary disorders, aging and the genetics of endocrine disease.

A wide diversity of patients are treated at weekly clinics throughout three different locations, Stanford Hospital, VA Palo Alto Health Care System and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Several speciality clinics are available, including a Pituitary Center that focuses on pituitary and hypothalamic disorders, Thyroid clinic, Bone clinic, Neuroendocrine tumor clinic, as well as several diabetes focused clinics.

The division currently consists of 26 faculty, 8 adjunct faculty, 7 emeritus faculty, and 2 instructors. Our clinical fellowship program provides trainees with two to three years of advanced training i the field of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. The program places a major emphasis on trining academic endocrinologists interested in basic and/or clinical research or those who plan to become clinical educators and also suits the needs for trainees interested as private practitioners. The division's mentor-trainee program offers in-depth guidance throughout all aspects of fellowship training and support though our NIH funded endocrinology training grant.

We invite you to explore our website and contact us for opportunities for training and research collaborations.
